Scottish Academy statement on Caring for doctors, Caring for patients
Miles Mack: “The Scottish Academy welcomes and supports the report’s recommendations. It is vital that the medical workforce is valued and we note the links made between the wellbeing of doctors and patient care. We welcome recommendations about addressing rota gaps through standardised rota design and a minimum standard of food and rest facilities for doctors.
Professor Derek Bell: “Workplace culture is an important area that the Scottish Academy wants to see action on, and we have been communicating with the Scottish Government and the Medical Royal Colleges in Scotland on this and other issues. It’s important that we get workplace culture right to attract and retain our medical workforce, to assist them in delivering quality care outcomes for patients. Urgent action will be necessary to implement the changes recommended in this report”.
